What Is an FFL Transfer?

When you buy a firearm online, at auction, or from an out-of-state seller, federal law requires it to ship to a licensed dealer (an FFL) near you — not to your door. The dealer receives the firearm, runs the required background check, and completes the transfer paperwork before you take possession. Custom Shooting Solutions is a licensed FFL dealer serving the greater St. Louis, MO area, and we handle transfers for local buyers with quick turnaround and no hassle.

How It Works

  1. Purchase your firearm from any online retailer, auction site, or private seller.
  2. Contact us and we will send a copy of our FFL license to your seller so they can ship the firearm to us.
  3. We will let you know as soon as your firearm arrives and set up a time for pickup.
  4. At pickup you complete the ATF Form 4473 and we run the NICS background check.
  5. Once approved, you take your firearm home — Missouri has no waiting period.

  • $30 — Handguns
  • $30 — NFA items

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an appointment?

Yes — we are open daily on an appointment-only basis, and our website is open 24/7. We generally return calls and e-mails within 24 hours, and we will get your pickup scheduled as soon as your firearm arrives.

How long does a transfer take once the gun arrives?

Most transfers take about 20-30 minutes: the Form 4473, the background check, and you are on your way. Delayed background checks are out of our hands, but they are the exception, not the rule.

Can you receive suppressors or other NFA items?

Yes — we hold an active SOT and can receive and transfer suppressors and other NFA items. The NFA transfer fee is $30 per item, plus the ATF’s standard Form 4 process.

Do you sell firearms too?
